The medieval and perched village of Montaigut-Le-Blanc

Montaigut-le-Blanc

Description

The history of the village is reflected in the charm of the old streets of Montaigut-le-haut, which meander at the foot of its castle and church.

Once fortified (see the city gate), the village is situated on a slope and dominated by an important castle (12th – 15th century). In the 13th century were born in this castle two Montaigut: one was chosen as “Old Master of the Jerusalem Order” whereas his brother reached the same function in the Order of the Templiers. The fort kept its important square donjon, a turret of stairs, an ogival door and the remains of the old chapel (12th century). The church Saint-Blaise is in part a Romanesque one and it has beautiful capitals and an interesting baptismal font. The point of view on the top of the village is really beautiful.
