Salt springs of Saurier

Saurier

Description

The salt springs of Saurier, rich in iron, were born in the heart of the Pays des Couzes. Mineral water runs underground through faults and emerges at the surface, leaving behind its white and red deposits that contrast with the surrounding green environment.

Halophyte plants, usually found by the sea, have developed around small springs.

Starting from a superb medieval bridge called "Roman", take a cool and shaded path along one of the most beautiful rivers in Auvergne: the Couze Pavin. You will discover under your feet the passage of some small gaseous springs, forming in places very coloured limestone crusts called travertines.
