Description
At the XIVth and XVth centuries, dynastic and seigniorial conflicts, known under the name of "Hundref Years War" made the insecurity considerably worse. So, inhabitants developed collective organization of the defence. Mareugheol is lucky to own spectacular vestiges of the fort that inhabitants raised during the XIVth century. They enclosed their homes behind high walls, about sixty cottages as well as the church. The wall, imposing and partcularly well-preserved, forms an almost perfect quadrilateral, flanked by the 4 round towers at the corners.
